Getting the fire started

So I decided to have a go at #lowrezjam this year, and after spending the first few days agonizing over engine choices, I finally settled down with PICO-8. I found the built-in code editor actually workable, but I keep the source file open in TextMate on the side for easier overview of the code, and fixing up the occasional whitespace mishaps.
A few hours in, and I already have a basic structure of start screen, main game loop, and game over screen.
